Ocean racing is a gruelling challenge for both sailor and boat.
There are a number of round the world events following various routes and with varying protocols.
The sport has been further popularised by several high profile figures who have risen to the challenge.
To the average man in the street, negotiating the storms and dangers of vast oceans is just too daunting a prospect and the men and women who do sail our oceans are greatly admired.
